Tout d'abord il y eu le pont des Saints-Pères, qui lors de son inauguration en 1834, fut renomé pont du Carroussel. C'était un pont de structure légère en bois et fonte. Il se montra vite inadapté à un usage intensif. C'est pour ces raisons que sera construit l'actuel pont (1935-1939) quelques dizaines de mètres en aval pour venir s'aligner avec les guichets du Louvre.
When the first bridge was being built at this location it was called the "Pont des Saintes Pères," but when it was opened in 1834 it had already been renamed the "Pont du Caroussel." Constructed flimsily of wood and cast iron, it soon proved unsuitable for heavy traffic.So the existing bridge was built (1935-1939) and moved some fifty meters downstream to provide direct access to what at that time were passageways leading to the Louvre.
