Le pont d'Iena

 

Le pont d'Iéna fut construit entre 1808-1814, sous l'initiative de Napoléon I (en mémoire de la victoire remportée en 1806 face aux prussiens); faillit être dynamité à la chute de l'empire en 1815. En 1937, le pont a été élargi pour faire face à l'accroissement du traffic et aux demandes de l'Expo Universelle de la même année.

Napoléon I ordered the construction of the Iéna bridge to commemorate his 1806 victory there against the Prussians . It was built between 1808 and 1814, but narrowly escaped being blown up in 1815 when his Empire collapsed. The bridge was enlarged in 1937 because of the increase in traffic and the demands of the Universal Exposition of that year.
