Le pont Saint-Michel

En 1378 fut décidé la construction d'un pont reliant le Palais Royal à la rive gauche. Ainsi apparut un pont habité en 1387. Il fut remplacé en 1408 par un pont en bois également habité, qui s'écroula en 1547 lors d'un choc de bateaux. Un nouveau pont subsista jusqu'en 1616. Ainsi fut construit le premier pont en pierre à cet endroit ayant 4 arches, plusieurs statues et des habitations. Ces dernières persistèrent jusqu'en 1808. Le pont actuel date de 1857 et possède 3 arches décorées de "N" impériaux.

In 1378 it was decided that a bridge would be built linking the Palais Royal to the Left Bank. Consequently, in 1387, just such a bridge was completed. Houses lined both sides.of the span. In 1408 a wooden bridge, also lined with houses, replaced it, but collapsed in 1547 when rammed by a barge. A replacement remained in service until 1616 when it was replaced by a stone bridge with four arches, several statues, and some houses which were removed only in 1808. The bridge now at this location dates from 1857. It has three arches and is decorated with the Imperial, "N.".
